What We Offer

Evidence-based diagnostics for every EV

  • EV battery diagnostic equipment and testing
    Service 01

    Battery Health Assessments

A comprehensive evaluation of your EV's battery pack using professional-grade diagnostic tools. Understand your battery's true state of health, remaining capacity, and degradation trajectory — not just what the dashboard shows.

    • State of Health (SoH) measurement with calibrated equipment
    • Cell-level voltage balance and deviation analysis
    • Capacity vs. rated specification comparison
    • Thermal management system evaluation
    • Written report with findings and recommendations

  • Mechanic inspecting an electric vehicle
    Service 02

    EV Pre-Purchase Inspections

Before you commit to a used EV purchase, get an independent assessment of the vehicle's actual condition. Dealer-reported battery health figures are often misleading — our inspection gives you the real numbers.

    • Independent battery health assessment
    • Charging system and port condition check
    • Diagnostic trouble code scan and interpretation
    • Drive system and regenerative braking evaluation
    • Detailed written report for negotiation or peace of mind

  • Diagnostic laptop connected to vehicle for code analysis
    Service 03

    Diagnostic Trouble Code Analysis

Warning lights and fault codes decoded with context. We go beyond reading the code — we interpret what it means for your specific vehicle, identify root causes, and provide clear guidance on next steps.

    • Full DTC scan across all vehicle modules
    • Root cause analysis beyond surface-level code reading
    • Historical fault code review
    • Priority ranking of issues by severity
    • Plain-language explanation of findings

  • Electric vehicle charging connector and station
    Service 04

    Charging System Evaluation

Charging problems are among the most common EV complaints. We evaluate your onboard charger, charging port, and charging behaviour to identify inefficiencies, faults, or compatibility issues.

    • Onboard charger performance testing
    • Charging port condition and connector assessment
    • AC and DC charging rate verification
    • Charging curve analysis and anomaly detection
    • EVSE compatibility and infrastructure guidance

My scientific background taught me that good decisions start with good data. At EVS Diagnostics, every assessment is built on objective measurements, careful analysis, and clear reporting so you can make informed decisions about your electric vehicle.
Evan Caton, Founder — EVS Diagnostics
About the Founder

Scientific rigour applied to every diagnosis

Evan Caton founded EVS Diagnostics to help Vancouver Island EV owners make informed decisions about their vehicles through independent diagnostics, battery health assessments, and technical consultation.

Evan holds a degree in Biochemistry — a multidisciplinary field combining chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, and data analysis to understand complex systems. That scientific training built a strong foundation in measurement, critical thinking, and the interpretation of technical data. Those same skills are applied at EVS Diagnostics when evaluating battery health, vehicle performance, and diagnostic information.

Since 2019, Evan has operated his own successful business in the construction industry, with extensive experience managing projects, troubleshooting technical challenges, and delivering practical solutions for clients. He also serves as CTO for an electric equipment company, where he works with electric drive systems, batteries, motor controllers, charging systems, and emerging electrification technologies.

After purchasing a BEV truck in 2023, Evan developed a strong interest in BEV technology and the realities of EV ownership — from charging infrastructure and battery performance to long-term ownership considerations. EVS Diagnostics was created to provide the kind of independent, objective information that helps owners and buyers move forward with confidence.

Every EV owner deserves to know the true state of their battery — not a manufacturer estimate, not a dealer's assurance. The actual data.
